What Type of Dark Books Does the Dark Side of the Library Podcast Cover?

March 7, 2021

The books we’ll bring to you every week are dark, meant to be of interest to goths, dark romantic types, fans of literary horror and dark fantasy, students at Dark Side University, curiosity seekers and those who prefer a bit more morbid, macabre edge to their reading.

We’ll present dark literary reads, dark history books, biographies of gothic icons and horror film stars, the occasional dark fantasy that we think might appeal to you, dark and horror film adaptations, and of course gothic novels. On the home front, we’ll occasionally stumble across a dark-themed DIY or crafty book that we think you should know about; and we’ll cover dark cookbooks and cocktail books as well. Dark fashion books come out irregularly; and we’ll of course want to chat about goth and ethereal music related book releases.

Our podcast will have a special corner for dark and gothic baby books and not-too-creepy books for little kiddos. Board books with a dark aesthetic, fun and eerie pop-up and picture books, books about night time and dark creatures, and juvenile biographies of genre icons such as Mary Shelley are things we’ll share with you.

We celebrate Halloween year-round here at Dark Side of the Library, so we’ll occasionally bring you Halloween book content as the year goes on, and then lots of Halloween content as the spooky season begins in mid August.

While we will occasionally cover a dark YA book that piques our interest, we realize there are already thousands of YA book bloggers and hundreds of YA book podcasts, so we’ll really work hard to carefully curate and limit our YA content.

Horror books are not our go-to here; certainly not slashers, books focusing just on gore, or cheap thrillers. Instead, we’ll share the horror books we personally are enjoying reading, and cover past tomes by horror greats Anne Rice, Stephen King, Clive Barker. We’ll emphasize literary horror fiction and ghost stories, but not simply paranormal “ghost sightings” type books.

We hope you enjoy both hearing about our newest dark finds, and delving into the backlists of dark books published long ago..

Have a pleasantly dark day,

Carrie
